I have a 1994 Evinrude 112spl motor on a 16foot fishing boat. I was wondering if anybody knows what my operating rpms should be or where I could find such info. The previous owner was telling me how they experimented with props until they found the one that is on it now. He said he called the boat manufacturer and asked them what should be on there and thats what he bought for it. I am not having any problems at all, it performs great. I just don't want to be over-reving or anything. I want the piece of mind knowing what the rpms are supposed to be.

Re: Engine rpms

Wide open throttle rpm should be in the 5000 - 5500 rpm range with what you consider an average load. Your setup should actually have the engine propped so it runs closer to the top of that range than the bottom. The engine will live longer.

Thanks a ton. When I get the boat out I will check it on its first run to make sure its good. Now I will know what I am looking for.

With today's fuels you'll want 5800 to be your target wide open rpm with an average load. If you're using ethanol fuel you may be 1-200 rpm shy of that.

Re: Engine rpms

I would want to keep it in the 5000-5500 range as that is what OMC rates the motor for.

Re: Engine rpms

That's the rpm OMC rated the hp at. HP rpm rating has little to do with what lets the motor live the longest.
