96 johnson 225 Need some help with throttle and shift cable

I have a 1996 Johnson oceanrunner. I replaced the 2 cables (shifter and throttle), but having some difficulty remembering the setup of the cables. I noticed that one cable moves when the shifter is in gear and moved from forward to reverse. Then the other cable will move when the throttle gets between half and full open in both forward and reverse, and it also moves in nuetral. I would imagine that the cable that moves in nuetral and full throttle would be the throttle cable. And the cable that moves when in forward or reverse would be the shifter cable. Is that right?
With that in mind, I believe the linkage for the throttle cable hook up would be the bigger linkage setup, and the place to hook the shifter linkage is the one that is lowest, and sort of under that one.
Also, the lower linkage (The linkage that has - what i think-is the nuetral switch is stuck and will not move at all. It did move before i took everything apart.
If anyone could help out and let me know the correct way from start to finish that would be GREAT. Thanks in advance

Try spining the prop as you shift it manually at the shift cam.
This is for my 1994 150hp, should be similar.

Identify the cables.
Put shifter in neutral,, the throttle cable will retract and the shift cable will go to the mid-point.
As you push the throttle fwd the shift cable retracts and throttle cable begins to extend.

Verify fast idle lever ( if youi have one) is in run position.
Rotate prop shaft, move throttle to fwd detent and halfway back to neutral.
Attach cable, make sure throttles are closed ( carb) and timing is retarded.
Timer base should be against stop on flywheel cover. Install cotter pin.
Install anchor block.
Check throttle for slop or undue tightness.

Shift cable,
move throttle to full throttle fwd and rotate prop as you manually shift it into fwd gear. Install shift cable with retainer clip or cotter pin.
Install cable retainer.
Shift into neutral.

To verify remove shift cable and see if the gear box is now in neutral.
If theres insufficient adjustment available at the threads on the cable end the shift rod height might be wrong.
Shift cable is adjusted only when in neutral.

Worked for me anyway.
And you might wanna get the service manual for it.

move your fast idle handle, that is the throttle cable, now put a piece of colored tape on it. so you will know in the future.

engine has to be in neutral and idle, control in neutral, and idle, fast idle down. now adjust cables to motor, with out moving motor connections. never adjust motor to cables.

Simply put the control in neutral with no throttle advance. Now look at the motor end of the cables. The cable fully retracted is the throttle. The cable about half way extended is the shift. No biggie.
