which ones (if any) are "must have" for the DIY-er ???

would be mostly basic maintenance only, though I do intend to pull the drive (and engine) at some point.

looking at the manual, some of the tools (suspension rack thingy or outdrive prop gadget) look like conveniences more than absoute requirements, but others I'm not so sure about. I like to have my ducks in a row before I start something...

There is one tool you don't need. I have never seen one, but have installed hundreds of the drives. One note, it's very seldom the complete drive has to come off a Volvo. Bellows change, ujoints, even engine removal only requires you to remove the upper gear box only.

The prop tool, kind of depends on which nut you have on the prop, but there are ways around all of them.
