out the port. Bought and changed the water pump kit but still no avail. I Put everything back togther the way it was took apart. Maybe followed someone elses mistake? Where is the thermostat? What do I check next. I know this is a good engine as far as compression and all that, starts on every 2nd pull, just this one big hickup. What do I check and fix now?
I'm ready to fish! Thanks for any replies

Click the thumbnail, please.

Be very careful taking the cover off or the tabs will break. It will help to run a razor blade or a thin knife around the mating surface before trying to lift it.

The thermostat housing and circuit need to be clean.

Test the thermostat with a small pan of heating water and a meat thermometer; it should open at around 140 degrees. It's more accurate if you suspend the thermostat.

The water in your bucket needs to be nearly up to the midsection to cover the water pump when running in a bucket. The pumps are not self priming. Be sure that the air bleed hole at the top of the housing is not blocked.

When you removed the lower unit, did the water tube come out with it? If so, you probably didn't seat it correctly when you put the lower unit back on. Take the water tube and seat it in the grommet within the exhaust housing. Then install the lower unit and slide the grommet on the water pump housing over the water tube.

Tahnk you. Please forgive my ignorance, I have a manual but it's pretty general. How do I check to seat it properly? I can push it up freely and pull it down freely, but I cant take it out, like it has play in it. Is that correct or should it not move at all?

Also took thermostat housing and thermostat off, started and no water came up, so the problem is below. Put water under no pressure in the upper and water came out the peehole so no clogs up in there for sure. Again took off the bottom and cleared all passage ways so no clogs in the bottom foot either. I either put it together wrong or its that free floating copper tube, which aint suppose to be moving?
Thanks for any help. also did searches before posting.

that free floating copper tube doesn't sound good. Each end must be inserted into a grommet. One is evident, on the pump housing, the other is at the bottom of the crankcase. It appears to have a push nut on it, which should secure it to the crankcase

Got er deep in the water? Those motors need to be in the water a ways to get them to pump, an inch or so above the louvered intake.

Putting that watertube back correctly without disassembly is very difficult. It is possible to reinsert the tube without taking the motor apart, but it will not be held firmly.

Click the two thumbnails so that you can see what you are up against.

Don't pull the watertube out of the exhaust housing.
