Yep, the disconnect is underneath the powerhead. Gotta remove it to get to it. Not nearly as bad as it sounds, though. Just keep track of the bits on top of the driveshaft - they need to go back on in the same order they came off...

Powerhead must come off. Seven screws under the pan. Disconnect throttle arm and fuel line and off she goes. Under that is a couple of square nuts that hold the shift rod in place. Disconnect that. Remove 4 screws on lower unit and it should drop.

As the other poster said, replace base gasket (313065 or 18-2901) and crankcase seal (303355 or 18-2892). Both of those items are usually less than $5.

Yep, 7 bolts for the powerhead, then the two nuts that hold the shift-shaft to the shift-lever linkage. Pwerhead base gasket may be shot, so be prepared with replacement: Sierra #18-2901 or OMC#313065. Also, replace the cork gasket, and probably the o-ring, on the carbon bearing/driveshaft seal: OMC#303355. The cork seal shows as a carb part on some sites, but that is the right part number.
