89 volvo penta power steering pump

Hi all...I have to replace the power steering pump on my 1989 volvo penta engine. I am trying to avoid paying $500 for a genuine volvo pump and am unable to find an oem pump is it possible to use a car pump for that particular engine?

Volvo didn't use GM pumps in the late 80's

89 gm 305 5.0 the pump i found is similar save for two exceptions, the replacement pump does not have the two studs to bolt the pump to the engine and the replacement pump does not have the spindle attached for the belt pully. My other question is would it be less expensive to have this pump rebuilt. thanks for your help I appreciate it.

I just replaced my pump on a 2001 Volvo SX 5.0 with one from the local auto parts store. Use a power steering pump removal/installation tool (most parts stores will loan you one) to remove the pump from the reservoir housing and re-install with new pump. The whole process took maybe 30 min. and the pumps are GM style, works great....
