Hi Everyone,
Tough problem on my hands:
I have a 16' Invader Bowrider (Boat is Mint) powered by a 90HP Johnson
Model # J90ELECM
Purchased this boat late last summer and moved it into a Marina slip close to home.
The Marina Mechanic suggessted I disconnect the VRO and pre-mix my fuel - reason - he was considering the age of the motor and said the normal life exp. is about 10 years on the VRO unit and by pre-mixing my fuel I would be worry free.
I had him disconnect it.
He winterized the Boat and then retired from the Marina. This spring I brought the boat home and last week took it in to prep it for this season - new Champ Plugs etc.
The mechanic chastized me for disconnecting the VRO and said I ruined the existing VRO by doing so. He said I should not run this engine without the VRO hooked up.
Now I'm really confused and upset - Price for a new VRO + Lab = $800.00
While I was there he tank ran the engine for a few minutes and the low oil alarm started beeping - is there another sensor alarm that I should have had disconnected when the 1st Mech disc. the VRO??
Who is right?? Will I ruin this engine (less than 300 hours on it) with the VRO disconnected?? I am so confused - frustrated would be a better word.
Any help advice would be most appreciated.
