I just bought a 1982 Johnson 140 hp. I'd like to purchase an inexpensive spare prop and have found one described as "V6 OMC Aluminum" prop. I'm new to Johnson and for some reason have an impression that Johnson and OMC may be related...am I dreaming? Thoughts? Many thanks.

Outboard Marine Corp (OMC) was the parent company of both Johnson and Evinrude. Most of the Johnson/Evinrude motors of that era were identical except for the color. If someone is advertising it as OMC, then it fits both Johnson and Evinrude.

A 140 is a V4 and could either have the 13 spline or 15 spline gearcase. Just because it is an OMC doesn't mean it will fit on your motor.

Check out http://boatpropellers.iboats.com/ for inexpensive aluminum props as your spare.

If it the same number of teeth on the spline it should work. Count them and see what ya got..;)
