I think the best way (for your wallet) will be like you said a 350 engine w/ carburetor and if you cant find the outdrive, get a SE121 from sterndrives engineering. good luck.

You can use any small block chevy. That boat also had a big block option from baja so that is a possibility as well. A long block won't be the bad part. All of the accessories and brackets will be the pain!

Take a look at 1800runsnew.com. Not pushing that site for any reason beside the fact that I bought a motor from them and they were a pleasure to deal with as well as pretty cheap!!!

Give them a call....they don't mind answering questions!!!

And by the way, stay far from the standard 260 hp 5.7L. You will be very unhappy with the boats performance. You are going to want about 320-330hp at the minimum for that boat to run in the 60's.

Other questions PM me. I am a big baja fan/multiple time owner and have gone through many many engine mods/swaps over the years!!!

Good luck with that, did you get this one on ebay about a month ago? They had a theft recovery in California that was very sharp, I walked the other way when i say that the engine and drive were gone, curious if it was the same boat.

Re: i purchased a 2006 Baja H2X No no motor or lower unit theft recovery.

Thank you all for the suggestions.
#1 if i did get a carb 350 couldnt i put a large carb on there to boost the hp to 320-350?
#2 I am missing all the accessories, so where would i start putting it back together?
#3 I have a good wrench carb 454 out of a truck. i know i need to swap the carb, starter, alternator etc. but can that motor be used in a marine application or would it blow?
( the last one one was just a thought)
#4 would i or should i try to find a boat 97+ from the auction( a flood or other type of damage) and if i did would that be sufficient enough to propel this boat?
#5 one suggested a long block, where would i get the heads ect?
#6 i bought the boat from a private party that had no insurance.

From 1997 onward, HP didn't change so much in the GM engines adapted for marine use, so you'd really not be going down in power. If so, it'd be a slight drop off vs a more modern engine.

First, I see no particular goal that you have set. Well, you sort of have a goal, which is to put an engine that fits in the Baja as cheaply as possible, which sounds good, but will get expensive if you leave out details/musts going in.

Honestly, you need a better goal, like this for example: An engine that fits the Baja marine application and use (or can be adapted easily), which produces 320+ horsepower, for X amount of dollars (only you can tell us what the X goal is).

You are hunting and pecking. If you can get something specific in mind, you can start spec-ing out engines.

Can you mention your budget?

$4k - $5k isn't much of a budget for an engine & outdrive. I agree that I wouldn't consider anything with less than the 320 HP that came on that boat, or you will really be limiting the market when you inevitably go to sell the boat.

I know that there is someone on crowniehq that just swapped a 7.4l out of his Baja and replaced it with a blue 525. You might look for someone that has done something similar, but you will be pushing your budget.

Re: i purchased a 2006 Baja H2X No no motor or lower unit theft recovery.

im sorry my friend.

without a donor boat....you are 7 k easy for the motor and drive....lets run it down.

rebuilt motor on the cheap.....2200.....(350 with a marine or rv cam)
manifolds.......600.
starter.....250
alt 250
fuel pump... buck and a half, easy
marine dist.....300
carb, minimum of 200
wiring pigtail......250
vairious brackets and cables to put it all togeather......over a grand.

now.......
lets look at the transom and gimbal housing.....1200 for an alpha......3k for a bravo.

then you need a drive.......5k for a bravo without props. add minimum 750 for bravo props
by the way i have a new b3 for 3500 cdn.....lol
alpha is about 1100.....add a buck and a quarter for prop.
depending on what you choose....the coupler is any where from 100 to 500 bux

then you need a rigger.....count on 2500 for him if all goes well.

thats just raw.....now

what happens if something isnt right????
warranty?......who do you blame?....the rigger that put it all togeather? or the parts themselves?

i can guess you know where im coming from.

the guys here are far more knowlagable then me.....but ill guess they will back me up on that list.
we have not even touched the 50 buck stuff like the bilge pump, the blower, the ect....ect
im not trying to scare you.....just making you realise......

Re: i purchased a 2006 Baja H2X No no motor or lower unit theft recovery.

Well, the musts are a Bravo One, and 320 HP. It's a performance boat, and that means Bravo One.

Might as well get the right outdrive. The power is needed to make it perform like it should. It needs to plane and cruise like it should. H.P. goes way beyond top end.

A donor boat might get you a bunch of stuff. Maybe a decent or fixable Bravo.

Maybe you can finance part of the upgrade/work.

You need to make calls, search ads, and work off a list.
