power trim: stripped AN fittings

so i searched and searched and i have not been able to find much info...

so i have just had my boat for a couple weeks now and have noticed some issues. there was an awful lot of greasy stuff near the power trim pump....
well come to find out, all of threads on the fittings have been pretty much stripped out, and they are dripping fluid once under pressure...

they can be re-tapped because of the an style fitting....

i have been searching for power trim parts and i have not been able to find another one. its like a small manifold that bolts to the reservoir with an fittings for the hoses to thread into...

my only other idea is to to drill out the entire fitting, tap it with 1/4" pipe thread, and run a male npt to female an adapter.... but if i could just find another little manifold thing with good threads still, it might be easier....

(oh ya, the an fittings on my hydraulic cylinders are leaking too, but nothing unbolts off to replace on them so i am going to just tap it with pipe thread and adapter))

im sure somebody has had this problem before... its easy to cross thread the lines into the aluminum... how do you fix it!?

thanks

Ayuh,.. Replace the stripped parts...

Your retapping idea might work, but I have my doubts...

thats what i am saying... the stripped parts cannot be fixed...

i have no doubt the re-tapping idea will work, but i would rather just do it the right way and replace the whole housing... but i cant find the part... which is why i am asking...

Re: power trim: stripped AN fittings

I wasn't aware that the trim fittings were AN fittings. I thought it was just a regular flare.

I don't think we know what motor, OB, I/O we got here. Post that and I'll move to the appropriate repair forum . . . ;)

Ayuh,... Every 1 I've taken apart is inverted flare, aka. automotive brake line fittings...

Yeah, that's what I remembered. I don't usually see people use true AN fitting except on fuel/NOS lines.

Re: power trim: stripped AN fittings

the boat is 1970 runabout and the motor is a late 60's mercury... not sure what the trim is from...

i was told that the AN fitting would work, but the more i think about it, it is just a flare fitting... either way the threads cannot be repaired, so i need to replace the whole manifold piece where the lines thread into...
i just cant find this peice anywhere... which is why i was considering taping it to use npt...

I see these pumps all the time on ebay. Prices usually start about $100. No guarantee that they will be any better though.

What about taking the manifold to a machine shop and have them look at it. Everything is repairable, just a matter of know how and money :D

Re: power trim: stripped AN fittings

jeez... i dont know why it was so hard to figure out what part i needed...
its the MERCURY POWER TRIM TILT VALVE ASSEMBLY part #45197A2....
which is no longer available some places and the cheapest one i found is 200 bucks on ebay...

so i think im going to give my idea a try... tap the threads out to NPT and run a male npt to female inverted flare fitting.... that way i can loctite the fitting into the valve body, then just screw my lines into it... im also going to do this on the cylinders that are stripped...
wish me luck or else im going to be dropping some cash on power trim stuff:mad:
