I bought an old aluminum spare prop for my 150 hp jonhson 83', and the hub is the wrong size. It's a 15 spline, which is right, but the groves for the splines end about 1 1/2" too soon. How do I find the right hub kit and is this something I can replace myself, or do I need to bring it in?
Thanks

sounds like you have the WRONG part number prop.
You need to to research for the proper part number of prop.
Just because the fins are the right size and number and it was reported to be used on a old johnson, it may not be the correct part.

You may not have a "user replaceable" hub. If the area between the hub and blade area is rubber, you can't replace it but a prop shop can. Those hubs need to be pressed in. If the prop has a square plastic hub then you can buy the prop hub kit for your engine and replace it. Remove the prop, pull the hub and insert the new one.

Ayuh,... Sounds like you're trying to put a Merc prop on a Johnnyrude...

That may be the case, the guy told me it was a jonhson prop, but who knows on a used one.

My stainless steel prop thats on there now has that rubber you are talking about. This aluminum looks like round metal hub, like you see on the cover of wheel bearings, and it does looked pressed in....
