Got this motor new and it has run great for 10 years. Recently started cutting off at idle. Starts cold and runs wide open great but once it warms up it refuses to run at low RPM and is very hard to get started. When it does start it will cut off after a few seconds if you don't gun it. So I bought a carb kit and figured I'd take the carb off and soak it and blow it out. I figure that should fix it. Only problem is I can't get the carb off! One of the mounting bolts seems to be blocked by the electric starter. Can't figure out how to remove the starter either. Someone please help with getting this starter off. I can't figure out how to get to this bolt of doom! Thanks in advance!

Disconnect battery, remove whatever wires are required to be removed then remove the solenoid, remove the retaining bolts of the starter bracket. Now, simply slide the starter and bracket assembly off and out of the way.

The alternative is to carefully (CAREFULLY) tap the bolt loose with a thin sharp screwdriver or tool of your choice, then spin the bolt off a little at a time IF the carburetor flange will clear the electric starter.

Any luck? Did you have to pull the starter? I am about to tackle the same project...

Thanks! I was afraid of that... so removed starter, pulled carb... in process of rebuilding now

a carb re-build is a great place to start and i hope that it fixes your problem. if the symptoms still exist after the re-build i would question a coil going bad. if one is going out it will usually run fine cold but once warmed up will start to miss fire and run like poo.
