Thinking about buying a small (5 X 8) enclosed trailer to haul my M/C and or camping stuff on longer distance vacations.
Want wife and I to each have wheels so I can go fish while she shops.
Want to stay smaller because that is all I need and want to use smaller car for better gas milage.

So, What are the 3 or 4 top quality manufacturers / brands and what makes them tops??

What are the construction techniques and materials that top quality trailers have???

Your thoughts, experiences, and recommendations, please.

Thanks, Ed

I assume by M/C you mean motorcycle....

If I had to choose a small toy hauler for behind a small car, I would take a serious look at Featherllite trailers . All aluminum frames, great build quality overall. As their name implies- they are lightweight, to go along with your choice of small car towing vehicle. I know several people that have them and are very happy with their choice.

I used one in flatbed configuration and was amazed how light a 6 x 10 was. I could easily pick up one corner and it was rated for something like 2500#. Beautiful welds on all the joints too, look like a stack of dimes.

FWIW:
I own an Interstate enclosed, and a Continental Cargo enclosed dual axles, so much bigger than what you are looking at. Both are fairly well built. The vent window in the roof of the Interstate did not last long which would be my only complaint.

The vee- nose of the Continental seems to help when towing it with the little sport - ute.

I can vouch for Haulmark also. I picked one up 6 years ago and although it's a 24' it still has no leaks and is in very good shape, despite what I drag it through when we off road in the winter.

I've had a 2000 Haulmark and it was bullet-proof! It was built heavy, I had it for 8 years and never even pulled a hub apart or replaced anything. I sold it for more than I thought it would bring too. It was a 7x12.

I bought a 2008 Roadmaster to replace it. Its a "motorcycle" trailer style (lots of diamond plate, a lot better interior, mag rims, etc..). Its been okay as far as quality, but I did knock a fender off already from a piece of semi tire that bounced off of it (easily fixed).

Your not too far from Detro Trailers, this is where I bought my Roadmaster. You won't find a better selection (about 1000 in stock) or a better price or nicer people to buy from. These guys are top notch and I can't say enough about their business and service. Here's a link. http://www.detrotrailers.com/

And pics!... Here is the Haulmark 7x12 (extra tall).

And the Roadmaster 6x12 (V-nose)

I've also had good luck with Roadmaster trailers, but I think they have gone out of business. The other trailer that we've owned and really liked was a doolittle trailer (www.doolittletrailers.com). The doolittle trailers are a little heavy, but built very well. They are made near Fulton, MO...you may have passed them on 54 headed to Lake of the Ozarks from St. Louis.
