Greetings!

Well here is the beginning of my first boat project. It is a 1998 Crestliner Fishhawk 1650. It has been a great boat for me for the last few years but the time has finally come to repair the ever growing soft spot that has been there since I bought the boat. (large red circled area).

So far I have gotten the 2 pieces of floor up and out of the boat.

here she is pre-op:
the other circled areas are not bad but they will be redone anyways.

From what I have seen so far it will be impossible to reuse any of the carpet on the new floor, and I would hate to re-carpet just the bottom and have old, mis-matched stuff everywhere else.

I kinda jumped the gun and bought 2 4x8 sheets of 3/4 inch marine grade. now I go and find out that the original floor is slightly less than that. How much of a problem would a 1/8 inch taller deck introduce?

I will post up more pics as I go on and I am sure I will be asking some more questions soon.

I myself don't see the 1/8 of an inch or even a quarter of an inch higher being a problem, but I'm not a boat expert when it comes to restoring a boat. Sadly soft spots have to get replaced when they start to show up to keep the problem from getting out of hand. The only thing I can guess on it just to make sure the center of gravity on your boat is at the right spot and you'll be good to go. Look forward to seeing more pictures of your project.

As far as the flooring goes have you thought about using a non slip paint of your boat's deck? Much easier to clean, and carpet holds water in till it dries up and could cause soft spots again in the future.

I agree. I see no issues with the extra thick plywood except for more strength. As far as flooring, I am a carpet fan. You will probably hear different opinions here about that. I used auto/marine carpet and it's been in my boat 3 full seasons and still looks great, even with fish guts. lol.

Going to 3/4 meant I had to grind my sideboards down shorter. If you have raised platforms that are attached to the hull, you might need to consider that before going to 3/4.

hi nice boat, just take the extra 1/8 into consideration as the previous post said, and i am from the no carpet in boats crowd, especially on a wooden deck structure, id paint it with a good nonslip paint (duraback. kiwigrip, grizzlygrip to name a few), or gelcoat it. your boat, your call.
good luck with the repairs, D

oh yeah i know someone will come along and tell ya, guess ill b the 1st,
get some epoxy or polyester resin and some cloth or mat and coat your deck all around,(top, bottom, sides), b4 you put it in it will last so much longer that way.
