What is a good alternative to conductive grease?
Is petroleum jelly a good candidate?

Re: Conductive Grease

Am I missing something.........or are you referring to April 1st?

Ya think....

Grease, by nature, is an insulator.... As is petroleum jelly...

Conductive grease...Love it.. :D:D Wonder how many people I'll catch with that one?

Whar are you trying to grease that you need conductive grease?

Re: Conductive Grease

Hi Don......achris had me going there.

I wanted to put some conductive grease on the pins of the connector on the main harness. I think this may have been the problem with my engine not turning over (if you remember a previous thread of mine). I spread the pins of the connector to get a better connection. Thought by adding some conductive gease just might help a bit more.

What do you think?

Re: Conductive Grease

you must be refering to dielectric grease for electrical connections- not to be confused with regular petroleum based greases

I use this for all my electrical connections,

Re: Conductive Grease

I believe dielectric grease is NON conductive.......

Dielectric grease is a non-conductive, silicone grease designed to seal out moisture and, therefore, prevent corrosion on electrical connectors.

Re: Conductive Grease

You do not want conductive grease in the main harness. Conductive means it would conduct grease, you would then be making a dead short in your harness.

Dielectric grease is what you want. It makes sure there is not the slightest chance of conductivity in the grease for electrical connections like that.

I use dielectric on just about everything to, keeps the green goblins out of the copper.

I was going to put some conductive grease on the individual pins of the connector to insure good conductivity.......if I put dielectric grease here it would do the opposite.

I think the potential for a short is huge here. Can you replace the connector?

Re: Conductive Grease

Just put some dielectic grease on them Tony, it will not cause the connectors to not make contact and it will keep the corrosion out, which is the only problem you are trying to deal with anyway.
If you try to grease them with conductive grease and it scrapes off the pin or squeezes out around the top of the pin hole, you will be posting of starter engaging for no reason, engine won't shut off, instruments all pegged out, and other fun stuff.
