Hello all, I have a tilt trim pump I am reinstalling on my outboard, I changed the hydrolic body, I have it hanging to test out prior to pulling the outboard off of the boat, I have the lines connected to the pump according to the manual but when I go up the trim goes out but the tilt comes in and vice versa, what could I have done wrong? This is a 1989 125HP force, I do not know if the motor weight needs to be on the tilt trim unit to work properly or can I just switch the two tilt lines to get it to work properly? I was told the pump body came off of a force 125 HP motor. HELP PLEASE!!

I'm not really sure that it is even possible to swap tilt up/down tubes without some significant bending. Double check the manual. If you have it connected per manual then try it with a load. If the manual isn't clear then hunt down the parts diagrams from Chrysler or USMarine. They clearly show ports. I'm not sure if the mercury engineered drawing show port connections - I don't think they do.

RRitt, I have checked and rechecked the lines with my force repair manual and they are as instructed but if you look at the lines they do not seem to line up with the lines of the tilt trim features, not truely square, I have no idea if the person I bought this motor off put them on right when he changed it. The unit he put on only had tilt and the trim ports were not drilled.

This link is from last year. Somewhere on it is a button "installation instructions" that will link you to a .pdf file. It will answer all your questions and has a diagram that clearly shows which tube goes to which port.

Re: 125HP force tilt trim operation

Hello again, I checked and rechecked the line connections and they were just as they should be, so I swapped the two tilt lines and now both come up with the up switch, I am under the assumption that they both come up at the same time until the trim stops at its limit and the tilt takes over and due to the not having to pump oil into the trim cylinder the tilt goes up faster I THINK now I may be wrong but I plan on installing the unit this weekend after I pull the motor for the forth time BY MY SELF (with a hoist) to put the tilt unit in for the last time (I HOPE), I will post the results.

If you have tubing connected any way other than what is shown in factory diagrams then something will ultimately break because of it. Everything has a reason.
