Thinking of coming back...

I sold my boat late 2007. I needed the money to get some things done and needed the weekends. Here we are Spring 2010 and I'm thinking/looking at buying another one. A Craigslist fixer-upper for a few thousand dollars. Nothing crazy here.
Since 2007 a lot has changed in America. With the economy and un-employment situation; How is the boating industry doing? Are there people out there? Is it worth getting back into? Thoughts...

the boating industry sucks.....its not doing well......boats are for sale cheeeep! this is just an indication of the overall econemy.

people are asking a bazillion dollars for thier boats.....however...they come to earth when the boat is listed a few months and no bites !

in canada where i am........we have had a really early spring.....a lot of boats are coming out early....and the sales are starting to pick up

Cruisers that were well outside my price range are now well inside my price range...and yeah, it's been so mild up here I'm already seeing boats comming out from their winter shelter. Although I've not seen any on the water yet.

If you have a couple of bucks to spare and the want to be on the water I dont know why you would care what others are doing. They're still selling gas and bait so what else do you need? I'll be out there this year more eager than ever!

YES, what he said!!! If you want to get back in,you can always find what makes you happy, just shop around you,ll find it.

It's bad all over now,but in time it'll get better.:) There's nothing more relaxing then to be on the lake with the line in the water, the boat just drifting, and you reading a book, or listening to some tunes.Or better yet,all above.;):)

AMEN to that.....well said SCJim....with the market the way it is, you're few $$$ should get you a little more value.

I had a little runabout with a '62 Merc 50HP 3 years ago.... great little find in great shape, boat, motor and trailer for $1800..... have seen similar for less now...

Before I bought my newest boat I had the same hesitations, but after thinking about it I love to boat...plain and simple. The economy was justification for buying a nicer boat at a fraction of the cost. To me it's a win win!
