Re: 96 115 Evinrude OceanPro

several things come to mind. power pack heating up and failing on one side. engine running hot. fuel tank vent blocked, and allowing fuel pump to suck fuel out of a vacuum.

checks, test spark all 3 cylinders. put you hand on rear top of block should be able to hold it there for a 3-4 count. engine temp range is 140-160 F. is fuel line bulb flat?

Miller, That V4 motor has the SLOW system. If it detects an overheat, it shuts off spark to one bank of 2 cylinders. You might pack a timing light and after it slows down, slap it on all plugs and see if you lost spark to two cylinders. You might feel the block with your hand. Proper temp is 140*, which means you can put your hand on the block for several seconds, w/o burning it.

Let us know what you find.

Re: 96 115 Evinrude OceanPro

I have that motor from 1995, and I have one head that will run up to 180 degrees, and sometimes it says 190( i have a temp sender on each head!!!)

but the SLOW system never kicks in because i can run that motor up to 5800 rpms...

the other head runs about 140-160....

I saw a melt stick there other day and was thinking of buying one for 200 degrees and one for 180 degrees

I also have the systems check...and it goes through the checks fine....

but the temp light always stays on...

I just leanred to live with it...
