I'll try this again, I don't think my previous attempt worked.
My boat is a 1989 Lund Tyee with a 3.0L 4 cyl Mercruise. I need to change the V-belt as the alternator/belt adjusting bracket is adjusted out all the way. I need to remove a spacer between the front engine mount and the block right by the alternator in order to get the belt out. If I remove the two bolts and the spacer by the alternator will the other two bolts that connect the front engine mount to the block over by the oil filter be enough to hold the engine up or do I need to support the engine somehow?

Oh, and why is JUST the timing gear cover rusting? Everything else is nice and black.

Thanks in advance for the information!

Probably because the paint was Scratched, allowing it to start...
Repaint it...

Thank you Bond-O I do appreciate it! I thought changing a belt might be an ugly job but not so much.

Some boaters zip tie a second replacement belt in place (but out of the way) before they put the spacer block back in place. This way they can replace a broken belt on the water...if you think that doing this is a pain in the driveway, just wait until you are 3 miles out, or worse drifting in a busy channel!

Happy boating!
