Greetings, folks.

I need some advice on what I should/could check to solve my stalling issue on my 94-120 force. I put in new plugs, checked compression (165/160 across the board) new fuel filters/water seperator filter, impeller, fresh fuel and high end oil. However, it seems to stall out when at idle and trolling slowly. WOT -runs like a bat out of hell. Most often when I put it in gear it stalls out - forward or reverse same thing. It is really sensitive when I put it in gear, and if I don't do it a certain way (fast) it stalls out. No problem starting up again, and if the engine is trimmed up out of the water it has no problem. at all Any ideas as to what I should check?

Regards.

What is the RPM set at? In the water at an idle? Then at an idle in gear?
Check specs on your engine.J

I have a 1990 Force 120 and was having the same isssue. I put in new plugs and a SeaSense water seperator filter in mine. I ended up having to turn my idle screws up about a 1/2 turn and then it stoped stalling at take off. (to be honest im suprised my engine still runs)

Re: 1994 Force 120 Stalls

Force engines will ALWAYS stall at low speed if the idle is too low. Idle speed needs to be 700-750 IN FORWARD GEAR, IN THE WATER. Obviously, since different props load the engine differently, speed in neutral will vary depending upon prop used. The higher the pitch of the prop, the faster the RPM in neutral will need to be in order to get the correct RPM in gear.

The screw with a locknut on the tower shaft regulated idle speed--if you have a manual, it is called the idle stop screw. Screwing it IN increases idle speed.

Thanks for the advise folks - I will try the idle adjust a little higher. If I recall the idle was about 700 in neutral - and I do have an after market stainless prop on but I didn't install it so I don't know the pitch. Just ordered a factor manual so that should help. What is the factory idle speed at neutral for a standard prop?

Regards.

I wish my tach worked on mine...
I have my manual somewhere, I'll see if I can find the stock idle speed.
