Avoiding the doctor is said to be a man thing...I got my first physical since 1992 last fall. Everything was great...Low BP, low cholesterol, and all the other important numbers where they should be. I figure I'm good now till at least 50.:D

My wife wound up in the hospital with heart problems. Worked through that and was given some things to change in life style to help.

She went to the doctor a couple of weeks later and he was amazed that she was losing a little weight, and looked to be in remarkably better shape. He asked "Have you changed some lifestyle things?" She responded, "Of course, you don't think I want to do THAT again, do you?" He told her that very few people can do that.

Heck, we went to a lasagna dinner at church. She took her own meat and veggies to avoid the salt and fat.

To my wife, and I, it's a no-brainer.

So when I hear "I just can't quit smoking" my response tends to be "So quit wining and die already."

My Bro in Law, 43yo, was a health freak. made his own fresh juices, ran, worked out. went for a physical 100%. 3 weeks later he dropped dead in the hallway. Massive Heart Attack. if the doctor does not listen to the arteries and veins in you neck, you did not get a complete physical.

Wow I'm 43 and have had the same symptoms for the last few weeks. Scary. I gave up the smokes 6 years ago though.

I probably shouldn't comment on this article. I think normal doctors are probably the most overpaid bums out there. The whole process is a joke! For instance, I strained my neck so bad at work once, I couldn't even turn my head without turning my entire body, making it extremely difficult to drive (which is 75% of my job). I went to the doctor at 4PM, stated up front that I strained my neck, nothing torn, just need some pain meds to make it tolerable. Well, four hours later, after visits by three nurses, and the doctor poking his head in for two minutes, the doctor tells me, "Well son, it seems to me you have a strained neck."

No way!!! How many years did you go to school to tell me the same exact thing I said four hours ago?! You should just be able to call in and get a prescription, well, only once (so people can't abuse the privilege), and avoid the whole waiting room, waiting game process. I would rather sit at home and suffer rather than suffer in the doctor's office. The worst part about it is, I can't believe the prices they charge for that so-called "service!!!"

or how much they pay for insurance.?
or all the unecessary tests they are forced to conduct by their ins carrier.
Thats where your money is going.
