I was towing her home from a fellow iboat buddies house..
I had just gottten off the freeway and was doing maybe 40 mph max..
I hear a huge POP and then SNAP..
I see my boat and trailer swerve to the right, hop a curb and travel BESIDE my truck as I am in shock basically..
She hit a barb wire fence..came to a dead stop, well the trailer did.
The B-Ticket launched off the trailer..I saw her fly 30 feet..and skid to a stop in a cow pasture..

4 hours and a lot poorer..she is on the trailer enough to limp home..
Will acess the damage soon as I have the courage..

Re: My boat accident

Kev, very glad you seem to be okay, well, at least physically. I've read many post where people say their boats fly but never took it literally. After evaluation and a couple beers, let us know what broke loose so we don't have that happen. There is a long trip ahead for some in a couple months. At least this didn't happen to you then! Just thank God everyone is well. Dale

Re: My boat accident

As I read it I kept waiting for you to say just kidding I took her off of the trailer to replace the bunks or something like that.

It sounds like the boat only skidded on the turf and not the road. I hope that the hull is in decent shape I.E. no tears or major dents. Maybe some loose rivets to worry about. That leg on the other hand!?!?

You know you're having a bad day when your boat passes you. I hope there's no damage:(. I trust your OK, you gotta have a strong ticker to make it through that.

I'm really partial to your boat, it's kinda my blueprint for when I restore mine. I sure hope she landed soft, lucky it was a cow pasture and not a Walmarts. Keep us posted buddy.

Best of Luck,

Don

Re: My boat accident

Thanks guys..
Safety chains were on even..But guys double check your chains..mine were rusty and old..and tac welded to the tongue..popped right off!

If she would have veered left.well she would have caused a major accident and maybe a fatality or two..

This is a very busy road, with only a very small median between the north bound and south bound lanes. I thank God she went to towards the right.

She definitley has some dents and minor damage..
The OD should ok...the ground was pretty saturated from rains Sunday night and soft..

I think I worked as hard as the tow truck driver to get her out...A few people stopped and even some people took pictures..Yes, my boat will be out there as a "LOOK AT THIS IDIOT" picture..Oh well, also not ONE police or State trooper passed by in a 6 hour period. I called the FHP and since there were no injuries or major property damage, they wouldn't come out.

I have to go put in a new fence post first thing this morning that I damaged and reattach some barb wire...Should be settled with the land owner with that..

I'll post exact pics of damage later today...I don't think I am going to the office

Also - wow! - Great to see that she went the right way....difficult to even think about what would have happened had the boat gone left....good thing we aren't looking at those pics......

Re: My boat accident

That SUCKS! Was the hitch sitting on top of the ball? I gotta be honest, the Jupiter passed my Buick not once but twice. Both times it was from sitting the hitch on top of the ball.....and my lame-o safety chains not being properly attached. I did it once and my dad did it once. I only made it about 20 feet but my dad actually made it up the road a bit.

Good news is no one was hurt and your truck appears to be unscathed.

Re: My boat accident

Whoa..........keep us posted. Nobody hurt, good: boat hurt bad. A setback for sure but with your experience and determination repairs are likely in the near future.

If you can determine exactly what happened let us know. With a 1000 mile trip to Lake Anna coming up I want to feel confident I have done everything possible to be safe.

First thing today I will inspect my safety chains.

Hang in there.

Dude,

That sucks. Glad no one was injured. Hard to tell from the pictures but she doesn't look worse for wear. Keep us posted, and stay safe

Re: My boat accident

OMG:eek: ?? Glad nobody was hurt. Boats and trailers can be replaced people cannot.
When you do the repairs to the coupler (replace) and safety chains (replace) make sure you use grade 8 bolts. I have seen some Mickey Mouse jobs and the people that have them never think anything bad will happen. This has happened to me also. Once it was my fault and the other time the coupler failed. The first time I did not lock the coupler or hook up the safety chain. The boat past me on the road. The second time the coupler failed and the ball popped out, but the safety chains saved it. If you have been boating long enough it is bound to happen sooner or later. You might want to replace the ball on your truck too as your comfort level will be high knowing you have fresh gear on your tows down the road.

I hope others will double-check their gear, as we don?t know how the previous owner may have put it together.
