URGENT! 2007 Volvo 5.0 gl won't run over 4000 rpm's

I have a 2007 volvo 5.0 gl here that will not run over 4000 rpm's. We have checked compression, fuel, fuel filter and plugs. We just changed the coil and rotor button and cap and are headed back to the water. The boat runs perfect up to 4000, but at WOT it pops and will not go past 4000, if you pulll the throttle back a little it will maintain 4000 rpms and quit popping.

Any help asap would be great, If the coil and cap don't fix it I am at a loss and my customer is going to leave without the boat and pissed off.

Sounds like it's leaning out at 4K. I would check the fuel system like this.

Did you verify advance timing?

they are at the lake now. I told them if the cap and coil don't improve it to do a WOT plug test to verify if the plugs are lean or not. I will also pass on the fuel test you provided if there is still a problem. Thanks for the input and I will post back my findings when they return.

Actually sounds like a weak intake or exhaust spring on one of the heads to me....

If he has checked the fuel, timing, ignition systems....could be!

You forgot to mention improper air pressure in the trailer tires, could be.
