Hello. I have twin 1990 200etxd outboards. The gauge for one of the motors has always had the yellow oil lamp on since I bought the boat. The oil tanks seem to fill properly and the alarm doesnt sound. That motor will only rev to 3800 rpm. I read that a test for the gauge is to pull the stop lanyard and crank the motor. The alarm does sound when this is done. I have tried switching the remote oil tank pumps between motors and the yellow lamp will not go off. I have replaced the oil control unit with no luck. Is it time to buy a new yamaha gauge for that motor? Could my rpm problem be a limp mode? It doesnt feel like its making much power past 2300 or so but it will rev to 3800. I appreciate any advice.

Re: 1990 200etxd oil lamp problem

if the oil is transfering correctly and the yellow lamp is lit look for an open circuit on the green wire in the trim harness between the engine and the tach.
the yellow lamp has NOTHING to do with ANY alarms or RPM reduction mode.
its simply alerting the operator that SWB is open, low remote tank level, and will NOT allow automatic oil transfer.
there is a lot of factual info posted here on iboats if you do some forum searches for precision blend.
