The "L" is a 20 inch shaft and the "X" is a 25 inch shaft.

You would need to disassemble both drives in order to switch the driveshafts. That's hardly worth the trouble unless you are set up for that kind of work.

So it is basicly the lower unit ? I'm more concerned with the electronics and the hydro tilt n trim. Plus any spare parts. Everything above the out drive is good then!!!

The midsections and components such as the steering arm are different by 5" and not interchangeable because of it.

The powerhead and electronics are basically the same.

as far as motor it's the same? the steering is rusty but the motor is good except lost compression in 2 cylinders but it runs. I'm looking for a parts motor anyway but think i might rebuild just the motor incase my motor goes south, like a spare motor. i think the motor i'm looking at is an L motor like mine anyway, i just wanted to know the differance for the future.
