What year did Johnson begin to make their motors to accomodate ethanol fuel blends? I'm looking at a used motor that is set up for the blend. I thought ethanol in marine fuel was fairly new. 40 hp, good price, VRO, are these good motors?

ethanol, still causes problems with outboards. treating the fuel, and keeping fuel fresh, is the easiest way to avoid trouble.

what year is your motor? there are 3 different oil/fuel mixing pumps VRO, VRO2, OMS which is the best.

Thanks for your reply. I guess I asked a dumb question. I think the motor is about a 1992, judging from images on the 'net. The motor is for sale and the serial number was painted over. It looks good and the seller says it was manufactured to use ethanol blended gas. I'm having a hard time finding a nice 2 cycle short shaft with 30-40 hp. By the serial number being painted over it kind of makes me think it could have been stolen. But it's at a marina and its been rebuilt.
