Hi all,

I might be pulling the trigger on a new to me boat this weekend. Looking for some guidance on what a fair price would be from the pro's.

It's 2002 Four Winns H190, Sunsport seating, Volvo Penta 5.0L GL, approx 190 hours on it, Bimini top, forward and cockpit covers, depth sounder, fish finder, extended swim platform, single axle braked matching four winns painted trailer. general condition is 8/10. asking is $15,999. Nada is $11,100.

Thoughts?

If NADA is $11,100 You should start about $8,000
1- NADA is high
2- Boats are not in demand so the market is down.
3- Soon there will be many boats for sale. It's a buyers market.

The Boat is Great. The Volvo is Great, The hours are great. But he still is way too high on his price. I gave $2300 for mine five almost six years ago and it only had 350 hours on it.

I wouldn't pay more than NADA value for it. Take into account NADA value is without a trailer too. Only you, or someone in your area can really tell weather or not its at a good price. For example, I paid $5700 for my stingray. NADA on is was $6400 without trailer. Around my area that's a good deal, especially considering the condition its in. When I asked some people here, someone said that it was a $4000 boat where they come from.

The price on Nada includes the trailer. I too am in Michigan. See my last post.
I'm 5 miles from North Higgins State Park. 12 miles south of Grayling. He is just too high for that boat.

the boats in Michigan if that helps ball park it.

I was going to tell the other members that NADA values are way low for the Canadian market, but, seeing it's in Michigan, which is a depressed market, the price is way out of line. Nice boat though.

If you can find that boat for under NADA value, you have found a great deal. Not to say it can't be done, but newer boats which are priced under NADA generally sell quickly. Take a look at some boat listing websites to see what else is out there.

If I can get it at NADA value I'm happy. Even at his current asking price I could sell it for more here. Everything a rip up here. anyhow thanks for the valuable info, time to start negotiations, wish me luck

You should ask him to justify that asking price to you. Where did he come up with the number. I'm willing to bet it's what he owes the bank.

Re: Fair Price?

I put in an offer this morning for $8800. The boat is being brokered, he says that I can expect a counter offer, but that they have a standing offer from someone else of $13,000 from awhile ago. I'm certainly not going to pay that much, it will be interesting to see what they come back at. Personally I think the broker is full of it and is just trying to get the most money for his clients (i.e doing his job). Funny thing is I saw a 2002 Four Winns 200 Horizon same V8 and options and the owner is asking $13,000 similar condition too (private sale), only problem that I have is the color strip on the hull is forest green which I'm not much of a fan of.

Edit: He came back at $14,500.

Just a word of advise from my own experience.
Make sure that trailer complies with RIV requirements, otherwise you'll be in trouble with customs.

If you decide to counter-offer, send the broker a copy of the ad with the same boat for $13k. Tell them that you like buying it through a dealer/broker due to the service you get (or make something else up), but that the service isn't worth that much to you.

Back in 2002, I bought my 1998 boat for $20k. NADA on it was $28K...and there was no recession then.

Re: Fair Price?

$16K seems a little high, but the $13-14K range is not unrealistic in the GTA area for a 2002.

By comparison, I saw a H200 (2008) just sell for around $27K recently here in Ontario.

Look up similar ones on the boat section of http://www.autotrader.ca/ and you'll see what they're going for around GTA.

You're not that far off.

Overpriced. Last year they were selling new H190 for under 15k. I believe they were 4.3 engines but still. Overpriced.

I'm buying in Michigan, so Canadian Prices don't apply.

Where? If I could find a new one for Sub 15K I'd pull the trigger on that no problem.

Seattle. Search last year's thread around this time. A bunch of people were very happy with those deals.

It's a buyer's market. I see tons of deals. I'm looking at a brand new 22' left over Wellcraft that retails normally at 60k. The dealer is asking 35k.
