1983 200 hp evinrude runs rough above 2000RPM can't get on a plane

I have a 1983 evinrude 200 hp. It idles fine however when giving it full throttle it starts running rough above 2000 RPM and will not get on a Plane. Sounds like its missing. I have replaced all the spark plugs. I checked all of the coils and Spark plug wires and did not see any cracks in the coils or nicks in the plug wires. I checked all of the power pack connections and everything looks ok. I checked the blocking diode in both power packs and everything checked out good. I ohmed out the charge coil and it reads 560 ohms for both of them which is ok. When I ohmed out the Starboard sensor coil I get 33 ohms between A and D instead of 18 ohms. The Port Sensor coil reads 18 ohms between A and D. The rest of the sensor coil readings appear normal. The spec is +- 5 ohms so it is out of spec. Could this be causing my problem. This is a very expensive part and hate to throw $320.00 at troubleshooting this problem and find out its something else.

you have not check the simplest, compression and spark with a spark tester. if these are good, then i would say you have a fuel problem. weak fuel pump, sucking air, clogged tank vent, or contaminated carbs.

It is easy to put an inductive timing light on each plugwire when you have the engine running under load. The light will show any "misfires" or "no fires". If the ignition is ok, then it is a fuel issue.

Thanks for all of the advice. This has been kicking my butt and I had to take a break from working on it for a while.

I checked all of the power pack and coil connections

I pulled all of the plugs (they are brand new and the gap has been verified) and tested each plug one at a time and I have a solid blue/white spark for each plug wire.

I checked compression for each cylinder and Iam getting around 105-115. Which is normal for this engine.

I pulled all three carburators and totally cleaned each one and replaced all the gaskets,floats,needle and seat.

I disassembled Both fuel pumps and everything is good.

I have fresh fuel and oil mix in a separate gas container

I will have to go out and buy an inductive timing light to verify any misses with the ignition. Its looking more like a power pack or coil breaking down under load. I guess I could buy a coil and try swapping them out one at a time.

That engine has two power packs. Each pack feeds one cylinder head. They are interchangeable. Swapping them can help your diagnoisis if you find spark differences between the two heads. The coils usually have very low failure rates, but can also be swapped when testing one cyl vs another.

methinks...theres your problem.!

You need to use a spark tester, a sparkplug is no use.
The spark must jump 7/16ths inch gap, buy the adjustable gap tester for $12 at any auto store.

Blue/white spark on a sparkplug gap says your spark will fail under compression ( more air molecules to pass through).

A timing light will indicate this too, neat tools to have in your arsenal.
