I recently purchase a boat with a 82 50hp johnson. The previous owner said that it had been sitting for a while so I changed the water pump. After starting it the tell tail seemed alittle weak so I dropped the lower unit and backwashed it and everything looked ok. I put everything back togher and started it up and the pressure still seemed weak. I know all motors are different and am wondering if I still have a problem ir if it looks ok. I included a short youtube clip. tell me your thoughts.

Thanks
Chris

Re: weak water pressure?

Is it getting hot? If so you can check any water lines and check the t-stat, sometimes they will get gunked up.

Check for trash in the relief tube. Wasps will get in there sometimes and partially block the water flow. Also are you checking this in the water on on the muffs? You will get a stronger stream in the water.

nothing seems to get abnormaly hot. I did clean out the outlet tube with no change. And that was on the muffs, I will take it to the lake and put it in the water and see if that makes any difference.

Thanks

Re: weak water pressure?

I found my problem. When I took it apart I was real careful and put it togher the way I took it apart. Well the po didnt have it togher right. He had a rubber gasket in the wrong place So I dropped the foot and made things right and now it pumps great.

Thanks for the input.
