Hull painting and keel repair

hi guys
i help with two things
1. has anyone seen this kind of damage to a keel and what would be the best way to try and repair it ??

2. i would like to repaint the bottom of the boat and it is heavily oxidized .
i would like to know if i should strip the bottom to bare metal
or if i could get away with sanding it down to the primer and spraying it with zinc chromate or self etching primer

wow. you have a good amount of corrosion there. Not sure how to go about fixing it, but someone will be able to able to point you in the right direction. Usually you don't see aluminum corroding like that, so you might have had some issues with galvanic corrosion...

Did you have your boat in salt water? I'm thinking salt water got inside and kept corroding it away. The piece would need to be replaced as the metal has no integrity left. The cheap fix would be to fabricate a new piece to go over top, secure it to the old one with appropriate adhesive and seal it with 5200.

its a 1961 starcraft Jupiter with a 1964 40 hp Johnson long shaft that i put on it..that some one was going to scrap for the aluminum. the transom was replaced on it and man what a hack job the person did on it !!! for some dam stupid reason they cut the height to 18 inches so i put a new transom and floor in it plus some seats making it into a fishing boat
and yeah i agree it was in saltwater for sure
