May just need a carb cleaning, check compression if you go look at it first and foremost, check spark as well, $100 is a good price IMO.

Don't bother unless you test the compression, you could be buying $20 worth of scrap metal.

Pull out the plugs , screw in the tester tight and pull it over 4 of 5 times, 100+ on the cylinders is good, just make sure the readings are within 5% of each other, 100 and 60 would be bad, 98 and 100 or 100 and 105 or something like that would be good.

Hmmmm, doesn't sound like a bad deal if it can be made to run at a reasonable cost.

Like bktheking says....check the compression and make sure they are very close to the same on both cylinders, plus check the oil in the lower unit and make sure there isn't any milky white appearance.

If you don't have to go through the lower unit, that would save you about $100 or more.

p.s. I still can't get that link to open up.

10% variance between cylinders is fine.
