Re: Hole Repair

did the grinder get away??? that kinda sucks!
personally i would mix up some thickened resin almost to a putty...and level out the gouge. i actually use fiberglass resin jelly...
then after all done just use the dremal and grind a v out of the exposed (putty) on the outerside and get a small gelcoat repair kit...

im not saying you dont need to use mat and resin to repaire the inside...but using the jelly will not make a mess running out on the gelcoat..
put the putty in the holes & gouge. then do a normal repair on inside.

Re: Hole Repair

Hey Pete,
That's what I would do but I would chamfer the sides on the inside an bury some 1708 into it from the backside.

Good luck

Re: Hole Repair

dish out the damaged area and fill w/ 1708, tape on the outside to minimize the mess, then dish out the outer and repair w/ gelcoat.
had to do the same thing in a few spots, wont use a 16 grit disc in a 7" grinder again
good luck, D

Re: Hole Repair

there aint never been a diy repair that the grinder didnt go thru the hull.

happens all the time.

inside the hull
1. scuff area with 60 grit.
2. clean with acetone.
3. add wax paper to exterior side.
4. lightly fill with oop's super dooper peanut butter.
5. cover area with csm fiberglass...2 layers...each bigger than the last.
6. cover all with a layer of 1708. csm side touching csm

outside.
1. "v" with dremmel.
2. clean with acetone
3. make gell paste.
4. fill.
5. fair.
6. buff
7.polish

8. drink beer

cheers
