well i was trying to put the Lower unit together on my 1976 15hp Evinrude and the bolt stripped while trying to tighten it; can a guy order them somewhere or any close substitutes? the hardware stores out here in bismarck are pathetic

I assume that you're speaking of the screw that goes into the brass shift connector? If so, you've probably stripped that brass connector also. Fast cure would be to re-tap that stripped brass connector with a 1/4x20 tap, then install an approximate length 1/4x20 screw.

The regular screw is part number 304024.

i'll check to see if the connector is stripped tomorrow with the top screw; cant find the parts on iboats for the screw or connector (303794)

Same problem on the same year 15 I have, PO put a lock nut on it, the one with the plastic inside, works without an issue.

bk, what did you put in for a bolt for the locking nut to connect to?

It looked factory (original), there was enough coming out the other side for the nut to lock onto.
