I have been looking through c-list for a good size motor for my Mark Twain and found this: http://lexington.craigslist.org/boa/1674889280.html
I was wondering about what year it looks to be and if you guys would spend $350 on it. The guy says the trim works so im assuming if nothing else works it would be worth a couple hundred.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks

yes! Buy it! It is worth that if you part it out.

Unfortunately, these engines command more money as parts engines than they do as running engines.

But it it still a good deal. Remember: many Force parts will fit it.

He got it for nothing.Offer him 200$ The trim's worth over 200$.Those motors running are decent units.Just harder on fuel than newer stuff.
Do a compression test. Then when you get the results:shake your head slowly and say tisk tisk tisk.Say that's not good. Then offer to drag that useless thing away. J

So I just called the guy and talked to him a little more.
Found out a couple more things....
1> The motor has the throttle and shift cables but no control box. No key switch or anything. I looked on ebay at some diff ones and they run about $120.
I was just wondering if it sounds fishy (no pun intened:D) that there are cables but no box. When I asked him where it was he said the friend left it on the pontoon for the other motor. I am just curious as to why he kept the key switch and box but took the cables out of the box....unless he upgraded cables.
Again let me know what you guys think.
Thanks

Go look at the motor. Do a compression test on it. Not unusual for the box to be used and not the old cables. I would defintely use the box not being part of the setup and the fact you have to buy one to get a lower price on the motor. If the motor ran last year then you should be able to get it started. If the compression results are bad, then get it for cheaper.

I picked up a control with cables (used one year), complete wiring harness and a S.S. prop, all from a dude parting out. $75 for all. Local.

All the parts are in good to very good condition. They were off of a 1990 Force, which used Chrysler compatible controls. I haven't actually used them yet, but they look like they will work.
