v belt squeling

so i am younger and have not really messed with v belts. on my 96 5.7 it has v belts and it squels right at startup for maybe 2 min and then it is quite. what do i need to do to make it go away? is it loose? do i need new belts? am i screwed? its just annoying and i was hoping i could make it go away.

Look at it, check it. If you can't tell if a belt is loose, then you probably need to find a mechanic to keep your boat up for you.

it is tight, when i put it on i put a pry bar on the acc. when i tighten them down, i dont see how you could get them any tighter

Too tight!?!?!?

Download a manual for your engine and look at the right way to tension a belt. Too tight and you'll destroy the bearings in the alternator and water pump....

Ayuh,... That's the Alternator, under Load.... How rusted are the pulleys,..??

they arent to bad, the worst is the crank pully and its not bad at all, just alittle surface rust, but i will check the rest and sand them

Your belt is probably glazed and worn. If not your battery is going bad and taking a big hit when you start. The squealing is the load on the alternator trying to recharge the battery. It goes away as the battery get charged back up.

batteries are new and charged before i put in the boat just to make sure they had full charge
