Last year I used a force brand gear oil from the dealer in the lower end. I just changed it and the force brand was dark blue. This year I used Quick Silver and its more of a 10w30 in color. Any difference? Any complaints with QS ?:D.....Still with the water...under the starter...thermostat?.. 97 40hp

Quiksilver parts are decent, they provide a lot of stuff others dont so i use them, naturally...I recently bought a gallon of QS TCW3 oil because they didnt have pennzoil TCW3....But I would like to think there is not much difference..

I have heard any 85W-90 works as well in a good sealed lower unit. But on that note when you are only using a quart use the QS.

So long as the oil is a hypoid type gear lube it works well. Hypoid oils (so I'm told) sticks to gears even when water is present. Color doesn't mean a thing usually.
