I have used a punch, hitting the edge of the slot to loosen the plug... Then replace with a new one.

I use a big screwdriver with flat spots that I can get a wrench on to turn it. Then I lower the drive until I can jam the screwdriver blade between the screw slot and my foot and turn the wrench with my hand. Sounds stupid but it works.

geo247, are you confused by how/why an impact diver/wrench works?

When you strike down on it, you are forcing the tip to stay seated and in contact with the screw head on the plug while the driver simultaneously turns the screw/plug.

I remember showing that device to someone else and they thought it was just a screwdriver with different attachments.
