I tried starting after a 5-6 month layover. The engine started and after about 1 minute stalled. This occurred repeatedly until now it wont start at all.. Tried in nuetral with just choke. 1/4 throttle and full throttle. No Good. Good Battery, fast crank - wont fire up.

Thought it might be fuel / water issues treated with Sentry, replaced the water seperation filter, filled with new gas, removed filter (sight glass) at engine, cleaned and filled with fresh gas. No start, all throttles, good crank.

There was some Jelly when I dumped the gas from the old filter. So Im leaning to bad gas issue but not sure.

Not a lot of pressure at the shrader valve at the engine - just a little gas dripped no much though.

So how do I make certain its not ignition system and accurately isolate the real problem going forward.

This engine is fuel injected ox66. I have no manual as this is first time I've had a problem with this Yamaha 200 ox66.

Your advise is appreciated

Use a spark tester to see if you are getting spark to all plugs. Do a forum search for homemade spark tester to build one yourself or buy one.
Get a Yamaha service manual for your motor unless you always plan on having some one else doing maintenance and repairs, it is a must have.
Sounds like you have bad fuel and will have to drain and clean your whole fuel system.

I dont think its fuel - chec'd all the right side wires for spark - no spark on any.

so I gather something in the ignition system. gonna check the forum !

very very rare to have ign issues on that engine.
not so rare to have sheet in the fuel tank.
in fact very common.
dispose of your sheet fuel.
test the fuel rail pressure, must hold 35 PSI minimum at key on engine off for about 5 seconds.
you will hear the fuel pump whine at this time.
when you hit that schrader you should have gotten a face full of gas not a dribble.
what method did you use to test spark?
trust me, if your fuel is jelling its whats known as phase seperation and the fuel is simply bad now. DO NOT run this engine with that fuel.

RodBolt - No Fuel pressure at the schraeder valve. I decided not to screw with and just called my Mobile Tech to come out and check it. Because even though I got no spark with the tester, I felt it was definately fuel issue.

In any case he came check'd the schrader valve - no pressure at all. Said he thought he heard the pump working. Pulled the VST and took it to his shop saying most likely it's all clogged up and not letting fuel thru. He didnt think it was the pump - just clogged but couldnt tell until he opened it up and checked it out.

Said I'll see you Monday. Im hoping it just needs to be cleaned out -cause that pump is pricey !

Said the same thing you just said " Ignitions rarely go on these "

PS Not looking forward to pumping out 40+ gallons of bad fuel out of that boat.

So the Sentry Fuel addititive I was told would work - wont work right?:(

Sorry, never heard of anything that actually will fix fuel once it has gone bad.
Plenty of stuff out there that will help while still fresh.

once the fuel has phased its simply junk .
dispose of it.
no amount of polisihing or snake oil additives will help.
ask a crabber or net fisherman in your area about disposing of it.
most the time I can soak the VST pump in combustion chamber cleaner and unstick them.
sometimes its an expensive lesson.
