Re: Johnson Trolling Motor

If I understand your question correctly you need 2 batteries connected in series.

Connect POS on Battery A to NEG on Battery B

Connect the motor leads to NEG on Battery A and POS on Battery B. This will give you 24V

Just for future reference if you connect the batteries in parallel, POS to POS and NEG to NEG you will get 12V

Here ya go!

You need to look at how many wires are currently running from the batteries to the bow of the boat and whether or not there is a 12/24/Charge/Run switch on a switch panel up there. Unless the wiring has been butchered by someone, there should be either 3 or 4 running from the batteries to the bow. You only need two (red and black). DO NOT cut out any wire as the next owner will then wonder what idiot screwed up the wiring. At the bow, all you need to do is match the red and black from the batteries to the terminals in the plug that matches the red and black on the new motor. Any just so you know, had you used the "search" function or at least scrolled down the list of topics, you would have found this exact question was answered just a couple days ago.

thanx guys.. so the plug in the bow is 12/24 volt.. so by following the pos to neg to the batteries.. and not cutting wires from the bow plug in.. the new trolling motor should work..
thanx alot

Re: Johnson Trolling Motor

Do whatever you need to do so that the red wire from the battery ends up on the red wire in the trolling motor cable and the black wire from the batteries ends up on the black wire in the trolling motor cable. Or like it was in Oz == follow the yellow brick road only in this case its the red and black road. The connector is just a connection. You shouldn't have to move, cut, or delete anything. Red to red, and black to black.
