The shift cable is not terribly difficult - but you do need to follow the instructions. Have you looked at the manual yet? Here's a pic of the routing:

Ahhh Fishermark, thank you so much! Now I can see what the heck is going on. My computer at work would not let me download the manual, I have it now.

Check this pic out.. This is what it looks like on my boat.. Now I KNOW for a fact that is the problem!

Service manual #14 under Merc Service manual links, correct? If not, which manual did you get that pic from, FisherMark? Thanks! :)

New update!!

Ok, so here is a funny thing. I untwisted the cable from the back of the boat (inside the boat). I did not install a new shift cable, but instead figured I would try it out and see if it works before replacing it. I took the drive shaft off and the whole bit, and when we got everything off, and started to disassemble the part on the engine, we just untwisted it.. We tried it out, and I think with some adjustments, it may work.. Stay tuned..

I'll take any advice or feedback! :)
