I recently got a 5hp Nissan 1996 with a built in PLASTIC fuel tank. Well it turns out the guy ran it hot just once and it melted a hole in the tank. I was wondering what would be the best way to plug up this hole. I was thinking of a high temp RTV but would like your guys imput on what to do in order to fix this.

My opinion would to replace that tank....I wouldn't patch it

You can't very well patch a plastic tank, just buy a new one. Good luck!

How much damage do you think an engine fire on your boat might do?

Perhaps you could hit up the previous owner for the $70 or a portion thereof, but I'm guessing he'll probably tell you the motor was "as-is."

Your not going to be able to patch it with anything that will stay stuck. Pop for the new one and live a wee bit longer.

If the motor got that hot, verify the cooling system too -- check the pump and thermostat, etc.

Scarred it up a bit and put some JB weld on it.Worked like a dream.

So will epoxy and a lot of other things....Until it pops back loose again. Boom!

Fixing my weed wacker tank has been an ongoing hobby for me. Epoxy will pop as mentioned. FWIW, RTV is petroleum soluble.

If it were me, I'd take the money I saved and spend it on fire extinguishers
