New Owner; 87 Wellcraft Aruba Weight Error?

I've purchased an 87' Wellcraft Aruba 232 and see a discrepancy with the boat weight. The boat guide (NADA) claims it's dry weight is 4100 lbs. How ever, when looking at the same guide it shows 5100 lbs for 1988 and newer Aruba's (The same boat). Could there be an error with the 87' weight spec's or did Wellcraft add 1000 lbs to this boat in later model years. I contacted Wellcraft and all they could do is look up the same information from their spec's, no other explanations because Wellcraft moved out of their old Florida plant 3 years ago to Mich, so no old timers are around to give info on older boats anymore as told. Does anyone out there know of why this boat changed weights (by an additional 1000 lbs) in one year - or is it a mistake. I plan on trailering the boat and bought it with a 2004 venture VCT-5000 trailer that's rated for 5000lbs. If the boat weighs 5,100 lbs, I'm overloading the trailer and my 2004 Toyota Sequoia SUV! Please help.

Re: New Owner; 87 Wellcraft Aruba Weight Error?

There may be no telling at this point....I've noticed the sam thing when researching V-20's....most years they had "dry weight" which is no engine and then some years they had weight with engine and then another year they had the heavier weight but it said "without engine".....

5100 lbs sounds like alot for a 23' boat. but figure in a full tank of gas at more than 500 lbs and I bet you are approaching your trailer limit.

At this point the only way to be sure is get it weighed and then look up the weight for your trailer and deduct.

I've been told they used to list weight without the engine/drive since different combinations could be ordered. I don't know what year they began including the engine/drive in the weight listing.
My '86 Nova II is listed as 5200 and I'm sure it's far heavier than that. If it truly weighed 5200 w/driveline, I wouldn't even feel it behind my K2500/454 Suburban, and it struggles at times. I could barely feel my old 23' daycruiser jet when towing, and it was weighed once @ 4200 (of course that includes the trailer, the NADA weights don't). I'm guessing my Nova is truly 6500-7000lbs with twin SB/Alphas.
