By far, the best solution, I ever found, was running/walking them through shoulder high (to them) grass or crops of some kind.

It basically wears it off of them (a little scent too) and and they like it.

I used Tomato juice on my WHITE german shepherd. It seemed to help along with the other dog shampoos.

It was quite embarresing having a pink dog:redface:

Update: he's back from the dog groomers where he had the full scrub down again. They used the same peroxide+baking soda mix plus an orange scented shampoo. Still smells a bit "musky" but far far better than last night.

I'd say the tomato juice helped but was not a great fix. Even mythbusters gave it a plausible rating.

Thanks for the advice last night!

Cheers

Sorry the tomato juice didn't work better for you. In my memory, it used to work like a charm when we were kids. :D I'll have to ask my Mom (who is now 89) if she remembers it working as well as I do.

And you, sir, are a gentleman. ;)

For some reason, I can't just post three smileys, even though that's what I want to do. :D :D :D

Go to drug store and try Douche, if you can try to get the one with Tricotine in it or any Douche will do.

I think that stuff works on musty *****. Dogs require a different product.

I've had this from a newspaper article for a long time - so long that I couldn't find it! Realizing it's too late, maybe someone else can use it?

Mix 1 quart of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide with 1/4 cup of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of liquid soap. Soak the dog in water and scrub with the mixture, then rinse in warm water. Be be sure to keep it out of his eyes.

Sounds similar to what your groomer did.
