mercruiser 140 collant system

Hi just bought mercruiser 140 1970s ish just wondering how to get coolant into the engine.

please correct me if im wrong ,but do you have to remove the thermostat and fill from there . anybody????

No need to prefill it, on the muffs it should work fine if the impeller is good.

sorry ,but i thought it had a heat exchanger system ,whereas the engine has a sealed coolant system which flushes over cooling pipes fed from the impeller. if this is correct it is the sealed system which i need to fill

My 140 (1989 model) has a radiator cap on top of the motor at the fwd end of the engine. That's where I fill the fresh side of the cooling system.

It's possible you have an aftermarket system on yours, or the earlier models are just completely different.

Check out the "Adults Sticky" at the top of the forum. There will be a link in there for downloading service manuals. They are free and the same ones that the Mercruiser dealers would use to work on your boat. It will show you where the fill point is if you have a factory FW cooled system.
