4.3 Alpha One Surging

My engine starts fine, but if you shift it too quickly into gear the engine will die. Give it throttle slowly and it will go but surge like it is breifly being starved for fuel. If you give it more throttle slowly, the RPM's will rise, but it will continue to surge

Again, it starts just fine and idles fine, it just surges when you put it in gear...

This all started at the end of last season (Sept in Oklahoma). Before that, ran just fine

I am not a boat genius and I want to be educated when I take it to the shop...please help!!!

Ayuh,... Sounds like you picked up a dose of Water....

Service the Fuel systems... Maybe just filters, probably rebuild the Carb...

I assume you mean water in the fuel tank....
Any ideas on how i would know this? I would love to solve the problem myself before I have to pay that wonderful hourly fee at the shop....

by pass the fuel line hook it up to a temp gas can,,,or
try some heet see that helps any.

First check is...pull your flame arrester off and have someone pump the throttle a few times and see if you are getting a squirt of fuel in the carb.

My guess is your accelerator pump is bad. Common item on Rochester carbs.
Probably time for a rebuild.

i will try some heet first to see if that makes a difference..

Any ideas what it should cost for a rebuild of this type?
