tilt trim problem

Hello I have a 70 hp 4 stroke Evinrude. The problem is after storage this year upon getting it home I raised the motor and unblocked it and then lowered it to check the oil. I had it serviced last spring and wanted to see if any oil was used. It was a quart over full. After setting for a while there was a small oily water mix that came out of the tilt/trim assembly. I lifted it up and lowered it and the mixture came out between the top and bottom sections where it is screwed together. I cannot find any place that help get the right answer for fixing the problem. Is there a gasket or does it need to be replaced?

what year? I have no idea what system you have so I'll just speak in generality.

Have you tried looking up the parts diagrams? Places like Crowleys, ishop, and boats will have very good online parts diagrams to help you with ordering. You can look at them to see what if any gaskets you may need.

Most trim systems check fluid while in the up position. As the engine lowers an amount of oil equal to the shaft retraction is displaced and goes back into the reservoir. Being a pint over in the down position would be common.
Check with your manual and make sure that you are properly checking the fluid levels.

Water in oil is never good. The bypass, check, and pressure regulating valves are usually plain steel.

Thank you RRitt I did check out Crowley's marine and it showed an o-ring. Hopefully the housing is not cracked. The o-rind is around $14 the housing is very costly.
