99 Mercury Outboard

Have '99 Mercury Outboard...great shape runs great. Have to charge battery everytime i take it out. What is my problem, is it the stator??

Could be. Or the rectifier or the regulator (if it has one).Or a bad battery cable connection.

Let's start with the engine. Is it a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke, and how many ponies?

its a 2 stroke..120 HP Mercury Force..i have a "Optima" red top gell cell. Put it on 2A charge for 13 hrs. and itll only last a few trips.

EFI or Carb'd.
