any one have suggestions on sealing the rivots on a semi V monark. I'm a boat newbee and a auto tech teacher I've got plenty of time and labor but like I said I'm a teacher so funds are slim. We are replacing the flooring, transom and upolstry and I would like to do it right but not sure what "right" is at this point.

I've heard of truck bedlining on the outer hull and also thought of using all weather adhesive like used to install windshields.

any thoughts would be welcome

Welcome to iboats!

To seal leaky rivets and seams there is no better product than gluvit, a two-part epoxy with zinc chromate mixed in so it self-etches to the bare aluminum.

Normally it's applied to the interior but can be painted over if used on the exterior. It is good for protecting rivets on bottom hulls as well.

You can order it right here from iboats:)

You can use aluminum pop rivets, closed-head rivets would be best. I used pop rivets and applied healthy amounts of 5200 to lock them in tight. Also folks have used stainless steel bolts wth 3M 5200 and sealing washers to fill thru-hull rivet holes.

If you'd like you can start a restoration thread and post some photos so people can see what you are working with.

thanks I will start a resto thread I've got lots of pics and my students will get a kick out of seeing there progress on the web. this resto is taking place in my intro to autotech class at the high school level.

also does the gluvit have to be applied by brush or can it be sprayed like from a pot sprayer like upolstry glue.

thanks so much for the advise

Gluvit is pretty thick and needs to be applied with a brush. It's best to apply at 60 degrees, the temps affect the working time, curing time and viscosity.

I bet your class will enjoy seeing the progress. Good idea!

I have some photos of my gluvit application in my resto thread, and there are videos on the web that might help you out too.
