Re: mercruiser trim goes down but don't up

There should be two solenoids, one for up and on for down. It sounds like there is an issue with one. Perhaps a loose wire or it is bad.

A easy way to see if one is bad is switch the two and see if the up works and the down stops working. Should be easy to do.

They look like this...or similar to this

Try using the trailer button. There might be a problem with the trim limit switch alignment. The trailer button bypasses that limit switch.

bring out the voltohm meter and start testing. I am betting person it is either the connection at the solinoid or the solinoid itself.

Re: mercruiser trim goes down but don't up

thanks for the quick reply!!!! i check the solenoids and both are working, the problem is i push down and never stop by it self and when i push up, run for a second and suddenly stops. If i push down again it happend the same thing .
i mess up something when i replace the oil?? . i just unscrew the pump(all together with the reservoir) upside down it , to drain the oil and put a new oil on it.
By the way my boat it's a 1994 glastron volvo mercruiser 3.0? i believe it i do not havre any manual or paper work.
thanks again

Well you could have messed up some wires when you tipped it. Have checked all the connections to the pump?

Re: mercruiser trim goes down but don't up

Hi, I?m back I was in Tulsa, for a few days (doing accounting on tax deadline make my life hard).
I put it back everything together today and, it is working now, I do not change nothing goes up with the trailer switch and down with the other.
I go to take some pics today to show it what I have.
I?m trying to put this boat in a good shape. For this summer and I have to learn a lot.
Other than that I have to learn how to set the right level of the trim using the boat to get the best performance, any suggestion?
Thanks a lot

Re: mercruiser trim goes down but don't up

I am having the same difficulty, in addition to that my trim guage is pegged to the bow up position as soon as the ignition is turned on. I have found some dandy ideas as well as a full PDF file on the trim motor. Nowhere in that did I see any talk on the guage. Any ideas??

It's becuase the trim motor has nothing at all to do with the trim gauge, which by the way is the most useless gauge installed on boats.
The trim gauge and trim stop are controlled by the two round senders on each side of your drive.
They are a major PITA to replace.

If I am hearing you, fix the trim problem and put tape over the guage??

First, which do you have, a Volvo or Mercuriser it makes a big difference.

You seem to be missing the most obvious tool in this whole process. The OEM service manual. If you narrow down what you have, there are OEM manuals up in the Adults Only sticky that you can download for free, and would make this job a simple problem to troubleshoot.

Re: mercruiser trim goes down but don't up

He has a Mercruiser 3.0L engine with a Mercruiser Alpha I Gen II outdrive.
The pictures are usable in his other post where he is looking for a manual.
Now that he has links to the manuals, he can download them, look at section 1C in manual #14 and be able to figure out what the problem is.
