The engine wiring harness connector on this 1984 305(228) has two pins that have come away from the cannon plug. The end of the pins look like they were soldered to the ends of the wires inside the cannon plug. Is there any way to repair these wire inside the plug? Can the cannon plug be cut open to access the wires?

No, you don't want to cut it open. Your best bet is to find a marine salvage yard and buy one from them or check eBay. You may have to buy the entire harness. Your choices then would be to switch the harness or cut the wires and splice. When you get the replacement harness or plug, check that the individual wires in each receptacle go to the same locations as the ones you have now. I replaced a 1986 5.7 (260) engine with a 1984 5.0 (228) engine and the harnesses were wired slightly differently. The replacement engine wouldn't start so I checked the wiring and found that I had to redo most of the connections. No big deal, but a PITA. By the way, I just sold two of those harnesses on ebay last month, sorry.

Are you sure the wires have disconnected from the contacts? I have seen a lot of plugs that came off like that that the wire just pulled thru the plug a little.
